THE BIBLE – TODAY’S TREASURE HUNT
COMMENT FOR EASTER 5    -  14 –O5-O6
1 John 4:7-21
This writer has a 70 year perspective for the Jesus people following that first Pentecost event.  He worries that some people thought of Jesus as so God-like they now denied his humanity.  However, John says that in Jesus God’s love took human form amid all the ambiguities, hostilities, and challenging injustices of his particular time.
Psalm 22: 25-31
This psalm was much loved by that first generation of Jesus people.
Jesus used the first despairing words of this psalm when dying on the cross. He sensed his abandonment to the fate of being human.  But then the darkness was replaced by light and joy’ coming first to the weakest of God’s creation and spreading out and on to generations yet to come.
Acts 8: 26-40
There is great excitement among those first disciples.  There are such radical implications from the way that Jesus lived out the message of God’s love that boundaries everywhere were breaking down. Phillip goes on a mission to the Samaritans – traditional enemies.  Then in defiance of Deuteronomy 23:1
he brings the good news to the Ethiopian eunuch.  The spirit of God would include every child of every race, class or classification.
John 15: 1-8
Those first disciples had a problem. As Hebrews following their loved Law of the Lord they were able at the end of the day to check whether they had done all they were required to do.  But now they were being asked to live a life of loving obedience to a living, divine Spiritual Power.
