THE BIBLE – DISCOVERY YEAR 07 – WITH LUKE’S GOSPEL
COMMENT FOR EPIPHANY – TRANSFIGURATION
Exodus 34: 29-35
In this powerful story Moses is so alive with divine spiritual energy when praying on Mt.Sinai, that his face shines.  At last the recalcitrant Hebrews accept from him this revision of the Ten Commandments given earlier in Chapter 20. Now there is a new partnership (covenant relationship) between the people and their God.
Psalm 99
This wonderful psalm should be read slowly and with dramatic effect giving every phrase, cadence and word its weight of meaning. Also we should be careful with the word “King” as it applies to human power and structure and the God of creation. It can “obscure the essential loving, justice and justice-seeking, forgiving and unifying nature of (the spiritual power we call) God” (With Love to the World 18 – 02-07, p.62)
2 Corinthians 3: 12-4: 2
Paul argues there are “thin places” where human veils made up of life experience, culture, prejudice and ambition are swept aside and the very being and purpose of God is displayed to human view. (WLW 14 – 02-07, p.60).  Therefore for us Christ is where the loving energy of the spiritual power we call God breaks through into our human lives.
Luke 9: 28-43
The Epiphany season began with Jesus’ prayer at his baptism in the river Jordan.  It ends with him being transfigured as he prays on the mountain.  Perhaps he brought before the Creator God all his understanding of the spiritual search of the Hebrew people and prayed that this Creative God would guide him as he lived out in his person the new creative Spiritual Power in all its mystery.  Again there came the dynamic, affirming “YES” to this new creation.
