THE BIBLE – TODAY’S TREASURE HUNT
COMMENT FOR EASTER 3 – 30-04-06
1 John 3: 1-7
The writer reminds the Jesus people in the uncertain times late in that first century that they now see themselves as Children of God – not Children of Israel.  Therefore they now have a new Law – the Law of Love, since God is Love. So sin is lawlessness, while a righteous life is keeping the ways of God revealed in Jesus.
 Psalm 4
This psalm gives a good picture of Old Testament covenant worship.  People are called on to fear God as the Power with whom final decisions lie; and then to completely trust in the sublime reality of that Power.  Therefore the worshipper takes his rest in peace and safety no matter what happens.
Acts 3: 12-19
We note here that 1. The resurrection of Jesus is consistent with the whole history of the Hebrew people – God’s power bringing life that even death could not end; 2. People then should not be surprised at this new miracle; but 3. should repent, that is, they should consider all this and now having new understanding change their minds and see the glory of God in Jesus.  (WLW 29-04-06, p.49)
Luke 24: 36b – 48
The Spiritual Power we call God asks us about what we really expected in this forty day ministry of this resurrected Jesus. What are the moments when Jesus stands among us saying “Peace be with you”? and, “touch me and see”?  Perhaps in moments of spiritual awareness, a passionate presentation of the Gospel, or faithful celebration of the Mass, Eucharist, or Holy Communion?
Question for Pentecost
In a world where we hear chilling messages of hate and violence, can we still hear the voice of the one who came offering the gift of peace and teaching the human race that the one Spiritual Power we call God is Love?
