THE BIBLE – DISCOVERY YEAR O7 WITH LUKE’S GOSPEL
COMMENT FOR EASTER 5 – 06-05-07
Revelation 21: 1-6
Remember the resurrection morning, the spiritual quiet, evil absent and exhausted?  That is the picture here because the Power that was the cause of everything – the Alpha- is the Power which can complete all things – the Omega.  For the justice which is at the very heart of the spiritual power of God restores, renews and establishes peace – the true Shalom of God.
Psalm 148
There is sheer exuberant joy like good health in this long shout of praise.  It ranges through the mysteries of the solar system, the earth with its fauna and flora, even the human race, everything working together with complete harmony. Already a sense of universality has come into its understanding of creation, and the covenant people are given a new vitality to help them fulfill their purpose.
Acts 11: 1-18
The Christian faith becomes a universal faith, stepping outside national or racial confines. Peter tells the church in Jerusalem how he shared the Gospel with Romans, stayed with them and how their response was another Pentecost experience.  The message was in the vision he had when he was told twice not to reject what God accepts.  He knew then he had to abandon his cultural prejudices.
John 13: 31-35
This little passage deals with the beating heart of the Christian faith.  Messages of revenge and hate now swirl around the world with victory depending on numbers killed  But here the power is Love shown in all its compassionate resourcefulness and strength in Jesus as he faced a variety of life situations.  The resurrection sets out how that love was carried through to its triumphant conclusion.
