THE BIBLE – TODAY’S TREASURE HUNT
COMMENT FOR EASTER 4 – 07-05-06
1 John 3: 16-24
The writer is talking about an authentic life based on the Jesus experience.  Through God’s act of divine grace in Jesus we discover what the love of God really is. One who practised this was Revd.John Flynn (1880-1951).  In 1928 he founded the A.I.M. Aerial Medical Service in Cloncurry,Qld., which became the Royal Flying doctor Service, and so fulfilled his dream of a “mantle of safety” for outback Australians. (WLW 04-05-06, page 53).
Psalm 23
In early Australia, public religious education had three basic items – the Ten Commandments, the 23rd Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer, the last two being committed to memory.  Here is a rich train of Old Testament thought.  The tribal God of the past is giving way before a God of Love who cares for his whole creation.
Acts 4: 5-12
Imagine Luke the Greek doctor getting excited as he tells this story. For here is Jesus coming as the Source of Life.  In this way God’s healing, saving power is released into the world. It is a gift that comes without distinction as to who can receive it, or limit except for one’s ability to understand it.
John 10: 11-18
We can imagine John listening carefully as Jesus talked.  For here is a divine drama being presented – Divine Love has to win its way in a world that grows impatient and just wants quick results.  Yet the God of Love has only the power of love to offer.  Those who hear and recognize that Good Shepherd voice understand what this means.
Question for Easter 4
Jesus of Nazareth once said “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you”
(Matt. 5:44)  What does that mean for a world threatened by terrorism?
