  • On Sunday May 1st, the congregation celebrated the centenary of the
commencement of construction of a church on the present site in Belmont
Road, Mosman. The foundation stone of the church was laid on the 5th of
May 1905 (the congregation had previously worshipped at a site in Avenue
Road from 1877). This church building is now converted to a church hall
and kindergarten adjacent to the larger building opened in 1937.

Following the normal Sunday Service the congregation processed to the
front of the Church Hall where Rev Dr John Garrett said a blessing for all
those involved with Mosman Uniting (previously Mosman Congregational)
    Church over the previous century.

Mrs Audrey Mathers asked Miss Phyllis Williams, the oldest of several
long-standing members (she has attended since the 1930's) to cut the
Anniversary Cake at the lavish morning tea that followed.

PRAYER TO REMEMBER THE LAYING OF THE FOUNDATION STONE
Living Eternal God, we thank you as we remember how, one hundred years ago,
in this place, this stone was laid for the first building of our church.  We
thank you because, in the Church, the one true foundation is Jesus Christ.
We praise you as we remember those who have gathered here over the years in
his name, who have become living stones, built into the community you have
upheld and blessed - ministers, members, worshippers.  Especially we
remember, as we name them in silence, those dear to our own hearts, who
continue to be companions for us on the way... We give thanks because here,
on this site, you have now gathered us into our Uniting Church, people of
several different traditions, so that we, who once were scattered, may go
on, hand in hand, toward tomorrow's high calling of further union.  We
rejoice in  the service rendered here to our Mosman district and to many of
our near neighbours.

For all this, your gift to us, we bring our praise.

To you, our heavenly Father, to your Son Jesus Christ, in the unity of the
Holy Spirit, be the glory, today, and forever.  Amen.
