Sticking with God
A reflection by David Capra on Sunday 25 June, 2006 9:30am
David Capra is a young artist who has completed a series of collages based on passages from the Bible on the theme “Sticking with God”. David has reflected the childlike approach to the development of religion and faith using material from his close family relationships.
In 2004 David completed his honours studies at the College of Fine Arts (COFA) at the University of New South Wales. He has exhibited in a number of exhibitions for young artists as well as exhibitions of students works. He has also won a number of awards for his works.
In conjunction with Fairfield Council he has been selected to participate in a project designed to help transform the way young and emerging artists learn, develop their skills and express their creative potential.
The title for David’s work is Bonnyrigg's Birds Nest – which is a series of 9 bird sculptures and a nest. These represent not only the cultural diversity of the Bonnyrigg area but also the natural significance of the park site and the bird species that have been seen or are likely to be seen in the future as the site regenerates. The bird can be seen as a symbol of peace (the dove) and also reflects that many migrants or refugees "flew" into Australia, therefore not only representing the rich cultural diversity of the place but also work that appeals to children and stirs people's imagination and curiosity.
We are very pleased to be able to hear first hand from David on the title of his recent works, and the influence of his faith and the words of the Bible on those works - Sticking with God.
David Capra has kindly given permission for his works to be shown on our website.
