THINKING ABOUT THE BIBLE
We put on this website a comment on the Bible passages to be read in the various churches each Sunday.  So you might find this interesting.
 1.  The Bible is more like a library of ancient scrolls rather than a book.  It begins with the Hebrew legends from before recorded history.  Then follows the Hebrew people's law and writings until the Jesus revolution.
 2.  We owe quite a debt of gratitude to the Second Vatican Council, because from that event there developed the three-year cycle of the Revised Common Lectionary.  All the major Bible themes are covered in the passages for every day of the week,  four of which are to be read on Sunday at Worship Services.  Two each come from the Old and from the New Testament.
3.  Most churches follow that pattern.  The Uniting Church uses a commentary on these Bible readings contributed by a wide group of retired and presently serving Ministers of the Word.  The first edition in March 1976 noted "With Love to the World"  'that is how God behaves and that is how Christians are called to live' (With Love to the World 21-11-05, Vol.11 No.5, page 5)
4.  We will be drawing on the material in this small booklet for each of the Sunday Comments.
