I wonder why Jesus wanted to be alone.
I wonder what Jesus was going to do.
I wonder where Jesus could go to be alone.
Well, he decided to go for a long walk out into the desert.
What it was like for him to be out in the desert?
(There are no ‘right’ answers here so don’t worry about getting it wrong)
After lots of people got to know Jesus and he became quite famous for his
stories and his miracles, I wonder if he still liked to get away by himself and be
alone sometimes?
I wonder what’s good about us being by ourselves sometimes too?
Now let’s move on to the second part of our talk.
Does anyone know what’s special about today?
It’s the first Sunday of Lent. Maybe you remember Lent last year with Jill? She
told me that you learnt that some people choose to do something special for
Lent.
It can be to give up something until Easter Day.
I heard that some of you decided to give up video games or sweets or chocolate.
It must have taken a lot of determination!
Others decided to do something special in a different way… Instead of giving
something up they decided to add something.
Like trying to be extra kind to one person every day.
Or to help out someone who is having a hard time.
Or to say a little prayer to God every day.
Or to read more about Jesus.
Or to turn away from the bad stuff we sometimes do.
Let’s think about this quietly and decide if it’s something we’d like to join in with
this Lent.
We’ll say a prayer together now. Follow along with the words in your order of
service.
Dear God,
Thank you for the beauty of nature that we share this earth with.
Thank you for rainbows and sunshine.
